SOMA REMEMBERING

Holistic Voice
a doorway into an honest relationship with our most intimate instrument; the voice and through that
.
The work of holistic voice offers a doorway into an honest relationship with our most intimate instrument; the voice and through that, the body. Our voice is our song, it never lies and often has a story to tell. Song and sound have immersed the earth we lay our feet on for aeons. This practice is less about how it sounds and more about remembering and listening to the naked truth the body speaks; an introspective approach to creative vocal expression within a held container. As an accredited, trained Holistic Voice Practitioner (HDip) with the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST), and ITSA, a session would incorporate two different therapeutic approaches, and we may work with one, the other, or a blend of both. Either way, each session will always begin with a check in around what may wish to be worked through or simply, through tracking the body, what may arise in the moment. This is a holistic approach to voice work which means we look through the whole interconnected picture of body, mind, emotions and spirit and how all can be affected by traumatic experiences. As a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, (a body oriented approach to working with trauma), SE work often informs my sessions and can be interwoven on request. Ritual and ceremony also organically inform the space offering a threshold for what is ready to be met, in love, in reverence. The first approach, ‘Passive Voice Therapy’, is where the client receives a Voice bath, usually on a massage table, whereby toning, overtoning, (harmonic singing), and a gentle percussive sequence, through specific tailored technique, support the client to journey through a deep meditative state. This approach offers the body a space to subtly recalibrate, regulate and release through the support of sound frequency. The second approach, known as ‘Active Voice Therapy’, through vocal processing techniques, is where the client is supported to use voice, breath, movement and visualisation exercises in processing a particular situation or in being with and tracking physical symptoms present. This can be a therapeutic, creative, and playful space of self-enquiry through the voice and through the body. I work one to one and with groups. One to one sessions, in Edinburgh, run from 60 to 90 minutes in a studio space both in a therapy centre and/or from my home. Online sessions are also available.
